Analyticity and Crossing Symmetry of the Eikonal Amplitudes in Gauge Theories

چکیده
After a brief review and a more refined analysis of some relevant analyticity properties (when going from Minkowskian to Euclidean theory) of the high–energy parton–parton and hadron–hadron scattering amplitudes in gauge theories, described nonperturbatively, in the eikonal approximation, by certain correlation functions of two Wilson lines or two Wilson loops near the light cone, we shall see how these same properties lead to a nice geometrical interpretation of the crossing symmetry between quark–quark and quark– antiquark eikonal amplitudes and also between loop–loop eikonal amplitudes. This relation between Minkowskian–to–Euclidean analyticity properties and crossing symmetry is discussed in detail and explicitly tested in the first orders of perturbation theory. Some nonperturbative examples existing in the literature are also discussed. E–mail: [email protected]

In 1/Nc expansion, analyticity and crossing lead to crossing even and odd (C = ±1) vacuum exchanges at high-energy, the Pomeron and the Odderon. We discuss how, using String/Gauge duality, these can be identified with a reggeized Graviton and the anti-symmetric Kalb-Ramond fields in AdS background. With confinement, these Regge singularities interpolate with glueball states. We also discuss uni...

We investigate the hypothesized existence of an S-matrix for gravity, and some of its expected general properties. We first discuss basic questions regarding existence of such a matrix, including those of infrared divergences and description of asymptotic states. Distinct scattering behavior occurs in the Born, eikonal, and strong gravity regimes, and we describe aspects of both the partial wav...
متن کاملUniversal structure of subleading infrared poles in gauge theory amplitudes
We study the origin of subleading soft and collinear poles of form factors and amplitudes in dimensionally-regulated massless gauge theories. In the case of form factors of fundamental fields, these poles originate from a single function of the coupling, denoted G(αs), depending on both the spin and gauge quantum numbers of the field. We relate G(αs) to gauge-theory matrix elements involving th...
متن کاملInfrared finitness and analyticity properties of the loop–loop scattering amplitudes in gauge theories
Differently from the parton–parton scattering amplitudes, which are known to be affected by infrared (IR) divergences, the elastic scattering amplitude of two colourless states in gauge theories, e.g., two qq̄ meson states, is expected to be an IR–finite physical quantity. It was shown in Refs. [1,2,3] that the high–energy meson–meson elastic scattering amplitude can be approximately reconstruct...

Recently, string theory on some specific curved backgroud spacetime geometries has been conjectured to be equivalent to certain gauge theories (AdS/CFT correspondence). This correspondence may be used to investigate the non-perturbative regime of gauge theories. I describe its application to the study of soft scattering amplitudes in a confining gauge theory. I describe two qualitatively differ...
